Sometimes a different practitioner ends up being the right fit, or a combination of approaches gets you further. The Welvow quiz takes 3 minutes and suggests what might genuinely help, based on what you're hoping to support.

What emdr actually involves, and how people use it.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that uses guided eye movements or other gentle left to right stimulation while you briefly recall a difficult memory. Over time this can help the memory feel less distressing. It is widely used to support people working through trauma.
Early sessions focus on understanding your history and building a sense of safety and coping. Later sessions work through specific memories using the eye-movement process, at a pace you are comfortable with. Sessions usually last 60 to 90 minutes.
It varies with what you are working through. A single event may take fewer sessions, while more complex or long-standing experiences take longer. Your therapist will agree a pace and plan with you.
Look for accreditation with EMDR UK, alongside an existing qualification as a counsellor, psychotherapist or clinical psychologist. Every EMDR therapist on Welvow is independently reviewed, with their training shown on their profile.
