Sometimes a different practitioner ends up being the right fit, or a combination of approaches gets you further. The Welvow quiz takes 3 minutes and suggests what might genuinely help, based on what you're hoping to support.

What counselling actually involves, and how people use it.
They overlap a great deal. Counselling often focuses on a particular issue or period of life, while psychotherapy tends to explore longer-standing patterns over more time. Many practitioners offer both and will help you find the right depth for you.
The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. You can share what has brought you, ask questions, and get a feel for whether the counsellor is a good fit. There is no pressure to cover everything at once. Sessions usually last 50 minutes.
Fees vary by location and experience, and some counsellors offer reduced-rate or sliding-scale places. Many counsellors on Welvow list their pricing on their profile.
Look for membership of a recognised body such as the BACP, UKCP or NCPS, which set training and ethical standards. Every counsellor on Welvow is independently reviewed, and you can read their approach and specialisms on their profile.
